Single Bladin’

Here’s a couple pics that I took this December while doing a shoot for an upcoming Sea Kayaker article. dscn2406.JPG

Last summer I got into canoe racing a bit, and when I jumped back in my kayak at the Door County Sea Kayak Symposium, it seemed like a good idea to bring the bent-shaft canoe paddle along for the ride. I put together an article based on what I had learned paddling fast canoes and how marathon-style canoe technique can transfer over to sea kayaking.

Why do it? Mostly because it’s fun. Quick cadence, plenty of power, not so much brace on the off side.

These photos were taken here in Madison back when I thought the lakes might not freeze over. The guy in the Bahiya is Kevin, my canoe racing partner. The single blade article for Sea Kayaker should go to print early this summer.
